Next thursday night some join us in Denny’s Plaza for CollegeFest at 7pm! Funnels cakes, BBQ, candy apples, subs and more!!! Also pick up your CollegeTown Discount card, see the new Centered Magazine, and learn about the upcoming Fall kayaking trip and roll classes with the LEAF program and CollegeTown. There will also be a mountain biking course! Come join us to kick off the year!!

CollegeFest is coming! Join us in Denny’s Plaza to hear B.o.B. kick off CollegeFest. After August will also be playing and Matt Wertz will be capping off the night! Everything kicks off at 7:00 with food provided from local restaurants.

Pick up free food tickets from the Student Activities Office at your college. Admission is Free, so bring all of your friends from college. Also pick up your free CollegeTown Discount Card to use all over Spartanburg.
It’s going to be a great way to kick off the 2009-2010 school year!

Get Ready for CollegeFest

I know that everyone is beginning to get ready to pack up and head back to Sparkle City for the start of the school year. We have been busy planning a big Welcome Back party for yall. CollegeFest is going to be great this year and happen in the fall! Matt Wentz will be the headliner, along with two other bands that we have yet to announce. We are going to have a great variety of local food vendors- thai, pizza, bbq, deli sandwiches. So mark your calenders for the night of Thursday September 10th to come Downtown with your friends to hear some great live music!!

        Many things have happened while yall have been gone.  Wild Wings is reopening, Blues Boulevard, a new jazz club, will be opening, and RJ Rockers will be brewing up their finest. Take a minute to visit Hub-Bub to meet the new artists in residence. USC Upstate will be working on the new business school, which I hope some of you will be attending next year, and SCC has announced their new downtown campus will be on Dean Street.  Lots is happening in Spartanburg, make sure you are a part of it!

Happy Earth Day!!! I hope you will do your part to beautiful the community around you and think about the globe as a whole.

For those of you who couldn’t make it….. Hub-Bub had a great CollegeTown Reading on Sunday. Morgan Osburn and Sarah Gray from Converse, Alice Setzer from SCC, Jason Funderburk and Lindsey Sebastian from USC Upstate, and Jessica Millers and Samantha Perez from Wofford. They all read thought provoking short stories and poems. Be on the look out for their work in your campus literary magazines, newspapers,  or in class!

The Enforcers will be playing on Thursday for Music on Main, and Jazz on The Square will resume on Friday!!

The USC Upstate Design Students will continue to have their senior exhibit in downtown Spartanburg (next to the old Abby’s). It will only be up until May 1st, so see it while you can!

The current Senior Art majors graduating in Studio Art, Interior Design, Art Education, and Art Therapy from Converse will conduct a series of individual and group shows in the Milliken Art Gallery. Gallery hours are 9am-5pm Monday-Friday and 2-5pm on Sundays.

There will be Spoken Word Artist,Gabriella Garcia Medina, at Converse on Wednesday at 8:30pm

Wofford will have a going green Car Show on Wednesday for Earth Day and there will be a 7:15 baseball game vs Presbyterian College.

Well everyone is through with Spring Break, now is time for the last push- especially for you seniors!!!

Music on Main was rained out last week, but fingers crossed for clear skies for this week to hear South85 – southern rock band- on Thursday night. Let’s try and kick it off the season this week.

Do you not have class from 11:30- 1:30? Come join a special edition of Jazz on the Square this Friday during the lunch hour.

“20 in 09” USC Upstate’s 20 senior art students are showing their work downtown at 151 West Main Street – next to Abby’s Grill. The work is wonderful and so diverse- from a product/business proposals to figure drawings and oil paintings. Don’t miss your creative peers!

Hub-Bub is having Eric Brace, Peter Cooper, and Brian Ashley Jones perform folk music on Friday night($10 admission)

Hey College Town!!!

       I just wanted to let you know what was going on in Spartanburg this week.  I hope this blog will keep yall up to date on what’s happening in Downtown Spartanburg. 

 

CollegeFest was a complete success!!!!! Despite the rain so many of you were there to hear Nappy Roots and Dave Barnes. It seemed like everyone was having a blast. (got pictures? e-mail them to me!)

There is a documentary film showing at Wofford, “Exploring The Dark Corner” tonight at 7:00 in the Miliken Theater.

The lacrosse team from Converse will be playing Erskin College tomorrow, Wednesday, at 4:00pm.

Spartanburg Methodist College Players will be putting on “Steel Magnolias” from Thursday April 2nd through Saturday April 4th.

There is a lots of music to hear over the next few days. Delaney’s has quite the line up for this week.

Shane Pruitt is playing tonight, Tuesday, and Jason Marcum with Donnie the Wailer on Wednesday night.

Music On Main is every Thursday night from 6:30 9:00, starting THIS Thursday in Denny’s Plaza. Special Edition will be playing Beach music to start off the season, and as always Music On Main is Free!

This Friday, April 3rd, Jazz on The Square returns to Downtown. Starting at 6:00 – 8:00 on Morgan Square. Come see the sun set, bring a picnic, and enjoy some relaxing jazz. Come welcome spring to Spartanburg every Friday night until summer!

Mighty McFly will be jammin’ at Sonny’s Brick Oven pizzia on Thursday night.

Hub-Bub will be hosting Stephanie’s ID on Friday night. From 9:00 – 11:00 listen to Indie Pop. $8 at the door.

Don’t forget to grab a bite to eat downtown this week, and shop around to see what’s new in the shops.
